The Google Pixel 6a features a 6.1-inch OLED display, Google Tensor chip, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. It has a 12.2MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera, 8MP front camera, 4410mAh battery, 5G connectivity, and Android 12 (upgradable). It also includes an in-display fingerprint sensor and IP67 water resistance.
Google joins in on the no-charger trend this time around, and the Pixel 6 arrives in a half-height box as has become the norm at the high-end market segment. The lid has a print of the actual phone on top, and the sides are color-matched as well - hence boring black on our review unit.
This year, Google has taken a drastically different approach with the Pixel lineup. They've focused on providing a great user experience without maxing out the specs on the processor or the screen. The Pixel 5 maybe this year's Google's flagship, but it's not a flagship device as we know it.
The new Pixel 8 duo features a design that is similar to the previous generation, with mostly trivial changes to the chassis. Apart from the upgraded Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back and the flat screen, the Pixel 8 Pro uses the same materials - glass on both panels, and aluminum for the frame.
The display has grown a bit since last year and is now 6.3 inches instead of 6.1. It is brighter as well. All the while, the device's overall footprint hasn't changed much, and neither its thickness nor weight has been affected. The latter point is particularly impressive since the Pixel 9a has the biggest battery out of any pixel to date at 5,100 mAh.
Going around the sides, we see that Google kept the slightly rounded frame instead of going flat, which is the current trend. Once again, the power button is positioned higher than the volume rocker, and we found ourselves hitting the volume up button way too often, so it takes some time to get used to. We just wished the power button had a different tactile...
The Google Pixel 9 has the fewest cameras compared to the rest of the 9-series gang - it has the same 50MP primary camera with 2x high-res zoom as the Pixel 8 (and 9 Pro, seemingly), as well as the same 10.5MP selfie cam, now with an autofocus lens, though. There is an entirely new 48MP ultrawide-angle camera with a bright autofocus lens (yes, it supports ma...
while the jump from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 7 series was somewhat modest, the 8 series' launch is defined by a slew of new features and upgraded hardware. There's also an interesting shift in strategy with the smaller Pixel, which is the subject of this review. One of the most notable changes in this year's vanilla Pixel 8 is its size. The Pixel 8 is now se...
